| In compiling even a brief
history, numerous debts of gratitude are incurred. Major General Meldrum, the Chief of General Staff, by giving his blessing has enabled this work to be produced. Captain Sam Bassett, the Army Public Relations officer, was the
instigator of the project while Lieutenant Barbara Smith,-Assistant Public Relations Officer (Army), has brought the publication to completion.
The staffs of National Archives,
Alexander Turnbull Library, National Museum and the Queen Elizabeth R Army Memorial Museum are to be congratulated on their professionalism as well as assistance. In particular, Elizabeth Cottrell of the Army Museum, who has helped on the research and the typing of this work, deserves special mention.
The largest debt, however, is to the Army and its personnel; they have created an institution that has provided an example of service worthy of emulation.
It only requires to be added, that though many have helped, only the compiler is responsible for any mistakes.
