Exploding Grenade design

The "exploding grenade" was a common symbol on badges. Originally it was used by Infantry, Engineers and Artillery. These days the infantry no longer use it. These days the basic rule of thumb is that if it has 7 "flames" it is Artillery and 9 "flames" marks it as Engineers. That was not always the case.

"LITTLE JIMMY" is what the Brits used to call the Winged Mercury on the Signal Corps badge; there was a comical character or cartoon in England called "Little Jimmy" and the Signals' figure reminded people of that cartoon character
