After WW2 the Australian army was reorganised into a small standing army and a series of area commands that handled mainly the Citizens Military Forces (Army Reserve) including the 3 months compulsory National Service scheme that was in operation. These badges (formation badges) were worn on the shoulder of the heavy woolen Battle Dress uniforms and the lighter cotton khaki (sand) summer uniforms.
